(in joint venture with Monax Mining Limited)
The Melton project covers the northern extension of the Pine Point Fault on the northern Yorke Peninsula of South Australia, and covers an area of 165 km2. It contains a number of discrete magnetic and gravity features, interpreted to be consistent with IOCG mineralisation elsewhere along the fault. The region hosts the historical deposits of the Moonta-Wallaroo copper-gold district and Marmota Energy considers this region prospective for the discovery of new deposits of copper and gold.
Marmota has a 50:50 joint venture agreement with Monax Mining to explore for iron oxide copper-gold (IOCG) deposits on this project.
A maiden diamond drilling program, comprising 7 holes to test three major discrete gravity-magnetic targets, was completed in June 2010. Four holes were drilled at the Miranda (MIRDD) target, located at the southern end of the project. Assays from drillholes MIRDD01 and MIRDD04 returned copper mineralisation and intersected the potential margin of a large low grade halo of alteration. Best results achieved from the program returned 0.49% Cu.
Phase 2 drilling conducted during March-May 2011 tested additional areas of the Miranda target, with the completion of four diamond drill holes. Sulphide mineralisation was observed in drill core, which continutes to reinforce the prospectivity of the project area.
